Katie Oblinger is the most talented family photographer in Atlanta. She made a special trip up to Asheville to shoot our wedding, and I could not have been more pleased with the results. She has a photo journalistic type approach that catches the magic in tiny moments. Below are some of my favorite wedding photos.
This last photo is one of my favorite pictures of all time. It captures everything perfectly.
Her talent goes far beyond weddings. Portraits of children are where she truly shines.
Katie's quick wit and dry sense of humor puts the subject at ease instantly. She's such a talented photographer, wonderful person, fantastic mom and a great friend. I could not recommend her more highly.
10 Questions with Katie Oblinger
Name: Katie Oblinger
Job Title: Child, family and high school senior photographer
Describe your typical work day: It’s a little hectic and not the norm, but my photography work day starts after my son goes to bed. I also work full-time in advertising so my photography work starts up around 830pm. No two days are the same…one night I’m editing photos and sending out galleries, the next I’m blogging and spending a little too much time on social media. (All for the sake of marketing, obviously.) My weekends are spent photographing babies, families, and gorgeous high school seniors. It’s definitely crazy, but it means I’m doing what I adore.
1. If you could choose one celebrity and raid their closet, who would you choose?
Jenna Lyons. She had me at “tomboy chic”.
2. Who is your favorite local artist?
Technically, my favorite artist isn’t local, but Columbus GA is close enough, right? And you can find her work at Gregg Irby Gallery. Erin Gregory. I’m obsessed. Her paintings are beautiful and her use of vibrant colors is like no other. Her still-lifes, landscapes…let’s just say that I would love to fill my house with her work. They just make me happy. Luckily, I received Limelight III as a Christmas gift and I honestly make a point to stop and stare it every single day.
3.Describe your prefect date night.
Because of my full-time job, I get to enjoy the amazing restaurants in Buckhead and the Westside, so for date nights, my husband and I like to stay closer to home. We’ll typically head over to Historic Roswell a little early so we can enjoy a cocktail at one of the restaurants along Canton and enjoy some great people watching. Our go to favorites are Roux and Table & Main.
4. Where is your favorite place to shop for clothes/accessories (online or a local store)?
I like to keep it simple. J Crew.
5. What did you want to be when you were young?
A veterinarian. My science skills were, shall we say, lacking.
6. What book made a difference to you?
As bizarre as it sounds, it wasn’t just one book, but three, The Millennium Trilogy. I’m fairly certain that Lisbeth Salander is the greatest heroine ever written. And it was in reading those novels that I felt more empowered than ever before.
7. Please provide a link to your favorite recipe to cook at home.
Mexican stuffed shells. Plus, my three year old loves them.
8. What was the best purchase you made last year?
Not so much a material purchase, but the best money I spent was paying for my dog’s neurosurgery. The time my family will get to spend with our sweet girl was worth every penny.
9. Where is your favorite place to buy things for your home?
10. What is your main goal for 2015?
To never take a moment for granted. Every moment, extraordinary or mundane, is beautiful.
