10 Questions with Artist Eileen Sirica Cardillo of Joy to the WORD

Hi everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful Easter!  I feel like I owe you all an apology.  At the beginning of the year I made a commitment to myself to write at least three times a week.  Up until two weeks ago I was doing a wonderful job and was so proud of myself.  The truth is that I just got busy.  It's one of my biggest pet peeves when people tell me that they are too busy, but it's the truth.  The real estate market in Atlanta is on fire right now, and I am shooting 2-3 houses a day.  Between the actual shoots and the processing, I'm a little overwhelmed.  I know that I am being much harder on myself than anyone else is, but I cannot stand when I don't keep a commitment.  At the end of the day I have to forgive myself and move on and do the best I can.  I promise to continue to bring you great content and beautiful houses, but I have to give myself a break from time to time and enjoy life's sweet moments that I want to savor. :)

Speaking of moments I want to savor, my sweet baby is almost a year old.  I cannot believe how fast the time is passing.  One of my favorite day's in his life was his baptism.  On that day Oliver got the sweetest gift from the Switzers.  It was a painting by artist Eileen Sirica Cardillo.  It sits on his bookshelf, and we will treasure it forever.  Artist Eileen Sirica Cardillo was kind enough to join me on the blog today and answer the 10 Questions.  Please welcome her!

10 Questions

Name: Eileen Sirica Cardillo

Job: Founder/Artist Joy to the WORD, LLC (and Caring Canvases, a ministry of Joy to the WORD, LLC)

Please describe your typical day: I usually wake up and start the day with a big cup of coffee. After returning emails, having breakfast, and throwing in a load of laundry or two, I head upstairs to my art studio. I fill my days by fulfilling client orders, preparing for art shows, and if time permits, I like to spend time on new designs. If I'm not literally covered in paint, I enjoy talking walks outside or meeting friends for coffee. But on a typical day you can find me in the studio.

1. If you could choose one celebrity and raid their closet, who would you choose?

Meryl Streep. She's not only an amazing actress, but she has such a timeless and elegant style!

2. Who is your favorite artisan?

Mary Frericks, Founder/Jewelry Designer/Artisan of GraceMary Jewelry

I love her inspirational pieces, and the materials she uses to create her jewelry.

3. Describe your prefect date night.

My perfect date night would be with my husband, John, in Seabrook Island, South Carolina. We have a villa there and it is one of our all time favorite places to be. We'd take a walk on the beach, sit outside overlooking the ocean and have a glass of wine while the sun sets. But when a vacation date night isn't in the works, I enjoy going to one of our favorite restaurants here, Sugo's, and seeing a movie. It's something we've been doing for years...our own little tradition.

 4. Where is your favorite local place to shop for clothes?

The Forum and The Avalon are some of my favorite areas to explore. I love being outside, so having that combined with shopping is great.

5. What did you want to be when you were young?

I wanted to be a singer or an actress. I had big aspirations of being on stage!

6. I'm a big believer that books can get you through the hard times in your life.  What book (or books) made a difference to you?

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom was one of the most moving books I have ever read. It especially helped me in dealing with my aging parents and the love that transcends generations.

7. What is your favorite thing to cook at home?

I've been making pork tenderloin for years for my family. This is one of my favorite recipes!

Herb Marinated Pork Tenderloins by Ina Garten

  • 1 lemon, zest grated
  • 3/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (4 to 6 lemons)
  • Good olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic (6 cloves)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons minced fresh rosemary leaves
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme leaves
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • Kosher salt
  • 3 pork tenderloins (about 1 pound each)
  • Freshly ground black pepper

8. What was the best purchase you made last year?

Cowboy boots! They are so comfortable and work with almost any outfit.

9. Where is your favorite place to buy things for your personal home?

I love going to Queen of Hearts in historic Alpharetta. It is full of antiques and treasures!

10. What is your main goal for 2015?

For 2015, I want to keep doing what I love with my artwork, but aim to maintain a better balance in my life. I feel blessed to be able to do what I do, but as I get older, I realize how important it is to strike a healthier balance between my business and enjoying my family and friends!
