Snow Day Survival Guide

Last time it snowed in the ATL, the city shut down and people were stuck on highways overnight.  Many people abandoned their cars to walk home.  I have one friend that was in her car so long she finished Candy Crush.  #winning

I was pregnant for the first time last time it snowed.  As luck would have it I wasn't feeling well that day and called in sick.  I spent the day in bed watching entire seasons of Kitchen Nightmares, eating all the snacks in the pantry, and watching the Buckhead Exchange explode with offers of help for moms stuck in cars with children or nursing moms desperate to pump.  It made me proud to live in such a kind city where people would do anything to help out someone in need, even though the rest of the nation was laughing at us.

With the threat of snow this afternoon and tonight, the mayor isn't taking any chances.  It seems like every school in Fulton and Cobb is closing early so people can be home and safe when the snow comes. This probably means we will not see a flake of snow, but at least nobody will need to spend the night in their car.

In case we do get snow, I've compiled a snow day survival guide for all my lucky readers.

Food

Like everyone else in the city, you should hit up the grocery store today.  You can get the essentials like bread, milk and chips + salsa, but you should also pick up the ingredients for a great chili, jambalaya or soup - you know, comfort food.  Don't have a recipe?  You're in luck.

TV/ Movies

Everyone knows snowstorms are the perfect chance to catch up on all the stuff you missed on TV.  Here are a few of my favorite shows/movies I've binged on recently.

The Great British Baking Show (Netflix)

In case you are in the mood for a movie, I really enjoyed these:

The Martian

Booze

Everyone knows that most people need a little booze to get through a snow day.  The upside is you can't drive, so you can start as early as you want with no judgement.

I think Meiomi is the easiest and most approachable wine I've tasted in a long time.  In a blind taste test among some of my friends, it won by a landslide.  You should buy a few bottles just in case.

Another perfect snow day treat is an Irish coffee.  The best Irish coffee I've ever had was at the Buena Vista in San Fran.  In case you want to bring a little of the real San Francisco Treat into your living room, I've included the recipe here.

ENJOY!!!

If you are like me and pregnant (i.e. can't drink wine out of a coffee cup all day) with an almost 2 year old who doesn't watch TV, I have no idea how to survive a snow day.  I'd appreciate any advice!!!! :) :) :)
