I'm obsessed with designer Kathryn M Ireland's (from the show Million Dollar Decorators) personal home. Located in Venice, CA, it is the perfect mix of contemporary and boho chic I strive for in my personal style. I love all the textiles and paint colors she uses, and the fact that she uses a lot of things, but it doesn't feel crowded. To be honest, it reminds me of the house in It's Complicated, which is my favorite TV house of all time. Even more than Something's Gotta Give... so you know I really mean it.
The home was featured in her book (below) as well as the latest issue of Veranda.
Joni Webb from Cote De Texas did an amazing job of scouring the interned for photos of the home, and she included them in two separate blog posts. Some are from Veranda, some are from the book, some are from real estate photos, and some are from other photo shoots. Click source below the image to see where I got them! Thank you so much to Joni for the original coverage!
I love a white house with a blue door. Clearly. I'm also a big fan of the black windows against the white exterior, and I'm a sucker for a Juliet balcony. I also love the lanterns. It's always nice to add a little detail.
I'm having a love affair right now with bleached floors. They are just so chic, and when you throw a white rug on top, I'm just not sure it gets sexier. Also... the stairs. No words needed.
Books + black and white photos is THE BEST. There's just something so picturesque about thinking you could sit there with a cup of coffee and just read. Does it get more luxurious?
AND THE RUG. I can't. It's too good.
I really like the pillows on the sofa as well as the light fixtures over the island.
The above photos were from the real estate listing, and the one below shows the way they styled it for Veranda.
To be honest with you, I like the blue couch significantly more. It makes the room look so much more cozy.
The kitchen below is from the real estate photos. I love the open shelving and lights above them.
And this is simlilar styled for the magazine. (below)
I include this shot to show the piece of art on the left, which I like a lot. Also, we are going upstairs!
It looks like they photoshopped a lot of the red out here, and I like it a little more muted.
Finally we head outside, which is what really sold me on the house. Couldn't you just be out there ALL THE TIME?
All you need is a cocktail and a good friend. It's the perfect setting for sitting around saying, "remember that time when we..."
So what do you think? Could you live here? I know I could! Or at least do a house swap a la "The Holiday." PLEASE!
Before I let you go, I did want to announce that I have a NEW WEBSITE for my art! Click here to see it! It has all my available paintings and photographs, and it tells the stories behind the pieces. I would really appreciate you guys taking a look!
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
